A new urban building that might effectively exist in a physical, social, and symbolic connection to the context at large. I have chosen to design a large urban office building and work within the context of Seventh Circle located on the Zahran Street Corridor, in Amman Jordan.
The site consists of two lands, Land A and Land B with a secondary street dividing them. This street is widely used as a mean to get back to the intersection at the Seventh Circle. This means that the users of this street are mainly individuals trying to get from point A, to point B, which makes it a busy road. In conclusion, a bridge was my way of connecting the two lands, so it could safely be used by the users of the buildings. The South part of the building is the main Zahran Street, while the North side consists of a residential area where people ride their bikes and children play. |
I have decided to design a headquarters for the company Skype, which would be the first Skype Headquarters in the Middle East. Microsoft's Skype division headquarters are in Luxembourg, which I used as a case study.
My design consists of five buildings, each department a building. The spaces around and between the buildings are designed to be interactive with the surrounding residential community and to benefit the employees aswell. The spaces on the ground floor are somehow informal areas, and as the users go upwards in the buildings, the privacy increases.
The two buildings on Land A are the operations building (responsible for dealing with Customer care, Global Product, and Regional Markets), and a Training building. The three buildings on Land B are Strategy, Administration, and Engineering & Technology. They are connected by small bridges and a bridge that connects the lands.

Site PlanThe Site Plan shows the circulation around the site and the arrangement of the buildings.
The outdoor green spaces have created zones where the employees and members of the community can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Outdoor spaces include reading zones, a park, communal area, and an outdoor restaurant sitting area. Other public indoor spaces include a public library, an indoor restaurant, and a Skype exhibition. There is also a bus stop waiting area at the South of the site on Land A, as well as a Gazebo for people to enjoy on Land B. The main entrance to the site by the users is from the North, to avoid increasing the traffic on the Main Street, and for safety reasons. |

Detailed Area
One of the requirements of this project was to pick and showcase an interesting part or area of the design.
I decided to showcase the Engineering & Technology Building and the way it is connected to the Strategy Building, as the connection between the buildings and the informal/formal outdoor/indoor spaces that it created is quite interesting. |
